Visal Nga, D.O.
Chief Resident 2011-2012

Visal Nga was born in Battambang, Cambodia. He and his family fled Cambodia to live in a refugee camp in Thailand from 1984-88. They settled in Stockton, CA after arriving in the United States. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering-Biomedical Option at the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to obtain his Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (D.O.) from Touro University – Nevada. Dr. Nga completed his Internal Medicine training at St. Mary Medical Center, Long Beach in June 2011.

In his spare time, Dr. Nga enjoys working out with friends, playing racquetball, honing his fledgling photography skills and exploring the local cuisine. He is very active with the Cambodian Community and currently serve as a secretary for CHPAA - Cambodian Health Professionals Association of America, in which he participated in it first medical mission 2011. He also enjoys traveling as he’s visited over 15 countries since his undergraduate days and he hopes to continue his adventures in the near future.

Joanna Tan, M.D.
Chief Resident 2011-2012

Born & raised in Malaysia, Joanna immigrated to Canada & obtained her M.D. degree from the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Prior to medical school, she completed her undergraduate studies in Medical Health Sciences. Joanna did her internship at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio and completed her Internal Medicine residency training here at St. Mary Medical Center in pursuit of healthcare administration.

Joanna’s interests outside of work vary greatly from the arts to technology and ice hockey!  She enjoys going to community events and exploring local cuisines with her husband, Lucas and friends.  After her tenure here as Co-Chief Resident, Joanna will be pursuing a career as a Hospitalist as well as a Healthcare Administrator
