"I would like to welcome all of our electronic visitors to the St. Mary Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program Web Page.  We are a compact-sized program which emphasizes a personalized approach to learning, with education in a full range of clinical settings.  Our hospital is efficiently-run, community-based, and intent upon fulfilling the mission of the Sisters, who have been dedicated to providing compassionate care in Long Beach for over 75 years.  Our residents also rotate to subspecialty consultation services at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, the southern campus of the UCLA School of Medicine.  The ambulatory care experiences include continuity clinics at the newly renovated St. Mary’s Medicine Clinic.  Residents also rotate to a variety of clinics and offices for the “subspecialties” of ambulatory care such as dermatology, ophthalmology, allergy-immunology, women’s health, etc.  Approximately one-third of our graduates go on to fellowship training, while others enter private practice, usually in local  situations.  Many of our residents have volunteered  some of their free time to help to answer your questions and to develop this website.  I hope you find it useful; we welcome your comments and questions."
