Welcome to the St. Mary Internal Medicine Residency program website. I am delighted that you are interested in our program and hope you enjoy the information presented here.
St. Mary is very special, efficiently-run, community-based hospital, focused on fulfilling the mission of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, who have been dedicated to providing compassionate care in Long Beach since 1923. Our compassionate and dedicated physicians, staff and dynamic leadership through the years, have perpetuated this mission. Our residents enjoy personalized approach to learning and providing great clinical care with education in a full range of clinical settings. Through clinical and research experiences at diverse training sites in Long Beach and beyond, residents in our program are exposed to the most diverse patients and faculty, ensuring rich clinical and educational experiences. Our residents also rotate to subspecialty consultation services at Harbor-UCLA, the southern campus of the UCLA School of Medicine.  The ambulatory care experiences include continuity clinics at the newly renovated St. Mary’s Family Clinic of Long Beach.  Residents also rotate to a variety of clinics and offices for the “subspecialties” of ambulatory care such as dermatology, ophthalmology, allergy-immunology, orthopedics, women’s health, etc.
We are proud of our housestaff: they are wonderful and talented group of physicians with diverse backgrounds, and remarkable dedication to patient care and each other.  Approximately one-third of our graduates go on to fellowship training, while others become hospitalists or enter academic or private practice.
I invite you to see how St. Mary can meet your expectations both for residency training and as an enjoyable location for you and your family. We believe that we are uniquely positioned to give you top notch clinical training, which will prepare you very well for “real-world medicine” or your chosen specialty. Our faculty is dedicated to providing superb training in a supportive and respectful environment. Thank you for your interest and we hope that you will become part of the great tradition of training at St. Mary Long Beach.

Sincerely,
Jasminka Criley, MD
